The History of Crown Ace Hardware

Crown Ace Hardware began as a simple "mom and pop" hardware store in Corona del Mar, California, in 1949. The name was derived from the name of the community itself. Corona del Mar, translated from Spanish  is "Crown of the sea."  The original owners recognized the need in the community for a local, convenient, and helpful hardware store. Thus Crown Ace Hardware was born.

Today, 60 years later, much has changed, but Crown Ace Hardware is still committed to offering our local communities the very best in customer service, convenience, and product selection. The Crown Hardware team prides itself on having a helpful and knowledgeable staff and the commitment to being the most helpful hardware stores on the planet.

Crown Ace Hardware has grown with Orange County. Since 1974 when Jeff Schulein purchased the business, he and his son Mark have expanded Crown into additional communities throughout Orange County offering the same high level of service and convenience. Today Crown Ace Hardware proudly operates in Corona del Mar, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Lake Forest, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, and Anaheim Hills.

The next step for Crown was branching out of Orange County and taking their mission of offering outstanding customer experiences to new communities. In January 2007, Crown purchased four new stores located in Riverside and Yucaipa, California and two stores in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. And in June of 2008, the first San Diego location, and their flagship store, opened in the Liberty Station development of Point Loma. And finally, the newest location in the Crown chain was opened on Coast Highway 101 in the coastal community of Encinitas in San Diego County in May 2009. This brings the current count to seventeen stores to serve you.

Crown teamed up with the Ace Hardware Corporation in the mid 1980’s to provide the leverage and buying power to help make Crown even better.  Today, although the name was changed to Crown Ace Hardware, the focus and commitment remain the same. Crown Ace is still family-owned and operated by the Schulein family. They firmly believe that Crown’s success is based on one golden rule:  provide exemplary customer service.  For 60 years that is exactly what Crown Ace Hardware has done.

It is clear that in today’s world, customers have many options for their home improvement needs. Crown Ace Hardware offers more than just an extensive selection of quality merchandise. It is the helpful and knowledgeable staff, the smiling faces, the convenience, and the ease of shopping that makes Crown Ace Hardware the destination for thousands of shoppers each and every day.

Stop in your local Crown Ace to experience the difference!
